YIT Kontiolahti

YIT Corporation, in collaboration with the municipality of Kontiolahti, is planning the development of a substantial data center in Lehmo, Finland. Situated within the new Vellamo business area, the proposed site encompasses approximately 25 hectares, with the data center itself potentially occupying around 10 hectares. This significant development is expected to generate hundreds of jobs, both during the construction phase and upon completion, drawing parallels to large data center projects in regions like Hamina. The project's realization is contingent on the necessary infrastructure, including the construction of a 400-kilovolt power line in North Karelia, a decision on which is anticipated from transmission system operator Fingrid in approximately two years. YIT has secured a six-month planning reservation for the Vellamo area, with potential for extension, allowing for feasibility assessments. The data center's location is strategically positioned between Joensuu and Kontiolahti.
